I remember in the early days of LED (and CF) lighting the false brightness promises — well, those days are gone. These lights are quite bright. I was caught a little off guard by how shallow these are, compared to the existing lights they are replacing. These ended up being recessed about an inch in their cans; mostly that’s OK for my use, but just be aware of that. These are great lights, especially for those hard-to-reach places that you really don’t ever want to fuss with again…
These are different than many of the cup-inset based lights you see in kitchens and hallways, as they have very flat faces. The light is a bright clean white, but without a frosted surface there is a slight harshness to it. If you are used rounded lights (actually cases around the unit inside the “bulb”) that emerge from hole of the setting itself, these take a little getting use too as they are flat and almost even with the hole in the cup’s frame. This makes you more aware of the space…
